The collection consists of correspondence, memoranda, news clippings, printed material, grievances, and legal documents concerning unions affiliated with the Mississippi AFL-CIO from 1957-1983. Contains information regarding the organizing of the Jackson Police Officers Association (1973-1974); the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) organizing battle for the right to represent city employees in Jackson and a strike of about 750 Jackson city workers (1970); and the organizing efforts of the American Federation of Teachers. Also includes memoranda and newsletters from the Mississippi AFL-CIO to the many local unions that were affiliated with it.
